Nellie McKay – New Video & Touring behind her musical ‘I Want to Live!’
I Want to Live! a musical death row revue, conjures the life story of “a woman of dubious moral standards…often a guest in seedy bars…”
“Inspired by the 1958 movie of the same name, I Want to Live! combines Nellie McKay’s virtually unlimited gifts as a singer, songwriter, actress, pianist, ukulele player, mimic, satirist and comedian into a show that is much deeper than its surface might suggest,” writes Stephen Holden for The New York Times. “In the most lighthearted way they evoke a heartless environment of social injustice in which people who fall through the cracks are invisible to everyone else.”
“Pretty darned unique,” adds Michael Musto of the Village Voice.

Elysian Fields “Red Riding Hood” (video)
NYC artrock duo Elysian Fields have a new album out called Last Night on Earth (tomorrow on Ojet Records). The debut video for “Red Riding Hood” is out now… sultry and sexy, as Jennifer Charles’ voice is prone to project…
You can get the CD for only $12 (*shipping included) at Ojet’s webpage. I’m sure the download version will show up on Amazon and iTunes soon… currently only an expensive import is available on Amazon.
dredg “Upon Returning” video
The official video for “Upon Returning” from dredg:
Directed & edited by merkley???
Produced by merkley??? & Tyler Gourley
Water FX: James Dirschberger & Ken Fisk
End FX: merkley???
Elder Derelict: Ron Turner
Teen Derelict: Lars Gourley
Younger Derelict: Liam Bridges
Youngest Derelict: Jett Bridges
Life Guard: Dexter Simmons
Koolaid Fairy: Athena Rose Djurkovic
Koolaid Fairy Assistant: Mila Lilith Djurkovic
Cute, colorful and clever – nice work from merkley???. They had me until… the second part of the “watersports.” The watersports set aside, the video and album are both quite great. It’s still building on me, but I dig it. Chuckles and Mr Squeezy, silly name, solid tunes. My favorite track is probably “The Tent,” highlighted in this trailer by Jorge Feres…
The Arcade Fire – The Wilderness Downtown
OK, I’m late to the dance on this one… it’s old…
The Arcade Fire’s latest 2010 video is an interactive interpretation of their song “We Used To Wait“… you put in where you grew up, and it brings in your old neighborhood into the video mix. Behold, “The Wilderness Downtown“…

Incubus “Adolescents” video
Incubus’ new one isn’t “thinking outside the envelope” or “pushing the box,” as it were… but it’s a good song… check the video for “Adolescents” here:
The vibe to “Adolescent” is (to me) similar to Morning View. I’m digging the slowed down video part (3:30-ish).
The new album – If Not Now, When? – comes out July 12th. You can pre-order it now.
King’s X – Charlie Sheen (from 2000)
Props to Jeff Kent for tweeting about this… I present to you, King’s X “Charlie Sheen” from 2000’s Please Come Home Mr Bulbous:
“I don’t want to hate you for what you’re not sorry for…”
Nik Bartsch’s Ronin review to be posted later today, PROMISE.
Radiohead *out now* and “Lotus Flower” video
So, the new Radiohead album The King of Limbs is out now (not tomorrow). They put it on their download servers early… so, if you bought it, go get it. If you didn’t, go buy it and get it! http://www.thekingoflimbs.com/
They also put out the video for “Lotus Flower”
Produced and Directed by Garth Jennings
Choreographed by Wayne McGregor
Director of Photography- Nick Wood
Editor- Leila Sarraf
The video features Thom Yorke as an “old man dancing”… :) The choreographer is a genius. Not because of his output… but because he was able to earn some income for services rendered to Radiohead. I mean, isn’t that style just called “Thom Yorke stage presence”…?

Smooth Criminal for Cellos
Cello and other string tributes may be a little “played out”… regardless, this is one still pretty damn good:
Stjepan Hauser & Luka Sulic – “Smooth Criminal”
cello, string, stringed tribute to Michael Jackson
Chali 2Na – Step Yo Game Up (video)
Jurassic 5 / Ozomatli rapper Chali 2Na just released another video from his latest album, Fish Market Part 2… this one for “Step Yo Game Up“…
Directed by James Kapner
Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger’s “Schroedinger’s Cat”
Behold… Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp-Muhl of Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger‘s debut video from Acoustic Sessions is “Schroedinger’s Cat“…

Tango Saloon with Mike Patton (video)
How did I miss this video for two years?
Cartoon animation (from the Portuguese cartoon O Vampiro Turma da Monica) to the Tango Saloon song “Dracula Cha Cha” featuring Mike Patton on vocals.
“Dracula Cha Cha” comes from Tango Saloon’s Transylvania (out in 2008 – which hasn’t appeared stateside, yet). Mike Patton (whose Ipecac label released the Tango Saloon’s debut album in the U.S.) is only featured on the one track. Patton fans, don’t discount that… the entire album is pretty great.
I got my copy via the Amazons… for not too hefty a price (but now it’s ludicrous). you may have better luck contacting bandleader Julian Curwin directly (via one of his MySpace pages).
Sufjan Stevens “Too Much” (music video)
Sufjan Stevens made his network TV debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Friday 11/19 (♥), and now the release of the “official music video” for “Too Much” from The Age of Adz today…
It is the video that played behind his band during the recent tour (my photo from the Portland show above). The video is as energetic and enigmatic as the Fallon performance. I’m digging it.
HF’s Cats Watching Cats (*VOTE*)
Canadian live electronic gurus Holy Fuck had a contest… photograph your cat watching their wicked-good video for “Red Lights.” Well, the semi-finalists are in and it’s up to YOU to vote on your favorite (HF’s Facebook photo album link). There are some cute ones over there. Deadline for votes is Friday, November 19th.
My favorite photo didn’t make the cut… mainly due to the breedist folks over at “HFHQ”. ;)
OK, Turtle (my 5-year old pekinese poodle) didn’t technically fit the bill for “cats watching cats.” Maybe next time…
Jónsi – Live at Origami
Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi abruptly canceled a run of intimate acoustic in-store dates after playing just one performance in the Go Closer series.
“Standing there nose-to-nose with fans in the cold light of day the other day in Origami Records, Los Angeles, he had the sudden and undeniable realization that this is not the environment in which he flourishes,” said his management in a statement. “To those of you who saw it in Echo Park, cherish it, because it ain’t going to happen again.”
Well, luckily the Los Angeles performance was recorded… here are two videos caught by Jack Schlinkert (director) and Max Sweeney (add’l camera).

SKS & MBD’s “Lotus Eaters” video from ‘Penelope’
I got Penelope in the mail yesterday… wow, I love it. It’s the piece of art that Sarah Kirkland Snider wrote with the voice Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond) in mind. The video for “The Lotus Eaters” just got released. It’s a haunting, lovely song that I think is a cornerstone of the album. You know, the album that’s only been in my hands for 12 hours. I can’t get enough of it. :)
The Lotus Eaters
video by Murat Eyuboglu + David Sarno
Shara was 7 months pregnant when it was being filmed. Penelope is out now. It’s a beautiful, beautiful, gorgeous, gorgeous record. Shara’s operatic-meets-indie-rock voice rule the day. Go get it from Amazon or from New Amsterdam Records directly.
