Mike Patton’s Mondo Cane – pro-shot footage from Chile
It appears there’s a televised, pro-shot Mike Patton/Mondo Cane performance from the Teatro Caupolicán in Santiago, Chile.
Seeing as our chances of a North American tour came and went, here’s hoping it shows up as a live DVD on Ipecac sometime in the near future.
Here’s also an interview with some more live footage (including some Moonchild!)… it’s long (over 50 minutes)…
REDBIRD Live (Mulvey/Foucault/Delmhorst/Goodrich)
Redbird, the folk supergroup made up of Peter Mulvey / Jeffrey Foucault / Kris Delmhorst / David Goodrich, is coming out with their second album…
Each December for the past seven years Redbird has played a sold-out three-night stand at the venerable Café Carpe in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Now Redbird Live at the Café Carpe invites you into the session, culling from these intimate shows performances of songs ranging from Mississippi John Hurt to Merle Haggard and Tin Pan Alley (along with a few well-chosen originals), and recapturing the magic and depth of songs passed between friends in a crowded bar.
- I’m Beginning to see the Light
- Strangers
- What Made Milwaukee Famous
- Come All Ye Fair and Tender Ladies
- For the Turnstiles
- Ships
- Snowed In
- Let the Mermaids Flirt With Me
- Silver Wings
- Ooh La La
- Phonebooth of Love
- Stewart’s Coat
- Sad, Sad, Sad, Sad, and Faraway From Home (Mulvey)
- 4 & 20 Blues (Foucault)

Mine is gladly on order… I’d urge you to follow suit. You won’t be disappointed. I’d also highly recommend their first album – a studio venture (out in 2005).
HF’s Cats Watching Cats (*VOTE*)
Canadian live electronic gurus Holy Fuck had a contest… photograph your cat watching their wicked-good video for “Red Lights.” Well, the semi-finalists are in and it’s up to YOU to vote on your favorite (HF’s Facebook photo album link). There are some cute ones over there. Deadline for votes is Friday, November 19th.
My favorite photo didn’t make the cut… mainly due to the breedist folks over at “HFHQ”. ;)
OK, Turtle (my 5-year old pekinese poodle) didn’t technically fit the bill for “cats watching cats.” Maybe next time…
Glen Phillips Live on Paste
Glen Phillips plays live on Paste…
(click picture for Paste video)
He plays “Always Have My Love,” “Rise Up,” “Two Headed Boy” (Neutral Milk Hotel cover), and “Whatever I Am.”
Ben Folds Live on Chatroulette
Ben Folds and a crowd in North Carolina on Chatroulette… improvisational pop songs…
’tis a tribute to Merton’s original piano on Chatroulette…

JFJO hates me. Placebo loves me.
I’m either out of town, in town at another show, out of town at another show, or barricaded out of a show whenever Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey comes to town. Anyway, JFJO is back in Eugene on 9/18, and I’ll be up at Sunny Day Real Estate in Portland. Oh well, I guess I shouldn’t complain… JFJO comes through twice a year it seems… I’ll try again next time… Tour dates below…
The Michael Jackson “memorial” service was yesterday (even though he is not dead)… JFJO & Friends did their own takes on some MJ on NYE 2008 and posted them to their website last week. You can download their live takes of “Billy Jean” and “Thriller” via the links (links from a recent JFJO email). Vocally, the MJ cover tunes… are… um… are they drunk? Anyway… they’re free.
