New Ben Folds Five song “House”
Ben Folds Five will go down in history as one of the bands that actually looked like they were having fun on stage. When they broke-up in the Fall of 2000, a bit of happiness died. Ben went on to do a lot of solo work (some Five-ish, some not), bassist Robert has stayed active in the NC music scene, and drummer Darren has put out a few gorgeous records with his band Hotel Lights (where he sings and plays guitar). In fact, I just found out that Hotel Lights put out a new one last week (Girl Graffiti).
Well, with Mr Folds’ upcoming retrospective 3-CD boxset, The Best Imitation of Myself (due out October 11, 2011), Ben Folds Five got back in the studio and recorded a new tune entitled “House.” Two other new BFF songs are on the collection: “Tell Me What I Did” and “Stumblin’ Home Winter Blues.” No word on if any more new BFF, but anything coming out of an 11-year gap is good news to me.
You can stream the new song at NBC’s The Sing-Off page. You can pre-order the retrospective at the Amazons. No word on a digital / mp3 download version of the retrospective yet, but I’m sure it’ll be out there on iTunes and Amazon soon enough.

Radiohead – Staircase (Live from the Basement)
Radiohead just debuted a new song… “Staircase” on Live from the Basement on YouTube…
Here’s a new track called Staircase, taken from our upcoming ‘From The Basement’ session.
And no, you’re not seeing double. The doppelganger drummers are myself and Clive Deamer. Clive has long been one of my favourite drummers and so I was really excited when he agreed to perform with us. Hope you like what we’ve all done.

Fiona Apple “So Sleepy”
As reported by Paste…
Fiona Apple recorded a song for Chickens in Love, a full-length album due out sometime in the near future from Dave Eggers’ nationwide nonprofit, 826LA. The album is a collection of 12 songs whose lyrics were written by 826LA students and then covered by Los Angeles-based artists. According to their Facebook page, the songs are products of songwriting workshops with the kids and musicians, and all proceeds from record sales will go back into the programs.
“So Sleepy,” a cover of 826LA’s The Gummy Bears, is Apple’s and Jon Brion’s contribution to Chickens in Love. You can stream it and other tracks by the likes of She & Him, Cold War Kids, Dum Dum Girls, Crystal Antlers, the Pity Party and more on their Facebook page, and you can pre-order the record here.

Jude – The Way That You Want Me
Jude Christodal has been on a hiatus as of late… his last album and mini-tour were in 2008. Well, under the cloak of night, the good ole CDBaby listings for him have become active again:

The new song “The Way That You Want Me,” which was featured on the TV show HOUSE (FOX), is the first single from an upcoming acoustic album. The song is available as a download only as of this time. $0.99 on CDBaby, and I imagine it will be on iTunes shortly as well.

Two from Jónsi of Sigur Ros
New video of Jónsi Birgisson & Alex Somers for their piece entitled “Sometimes I Get Scared“…
(warning, it’s not like Sigur Rós or Riceboy Sleeps… at all…)
“We started the video sometime in 2004 and forgot about it for a long time, then discovered it later and finished it. So don’t worry, we’re not going in a new direction of all crazy distortion songs or anything! We’ve always flirted with dirty sounds, but dirty sounds that are still very melodic. In this one we really let ourselves make something aggressive but still melody based… It was different and fun…”

New song “Kaleidoscope (featuring Jónsi)” (available on iTunes and other eTailers) with DJ Tiësto… listen to it HERE for free (streaming).
