Get the AUDIO // Get the VIDEO

jónsi live at the wiltern was directed by dean deblois, (the director of the oscar nominated film how to train your dragon and the sigur rós film heima). the footage – recorded at los angeles’ wiltern theater – was first aired on npr on sunday october 17, 2010 and it marked the first ever live video webcast of a concert for the public radio organisation. filmed towards the end of jónsi’s extensive world tour in support of his solo album ‘go’, the film captures the live show at the late stage when the set and visuals were at their finest. this digital release is available exclusively on itunes.

Other news…

  • Tres Mountains (side project from Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam & dUg Pinnick of King’s X) is now up for pre-order.  It comes out March 14th.  Go HERE for more info on pre-order.
  • Carla Kihlstedt & Mattias Bossi‘s new album, Still You Lay Dreaming: Tales for the Stage II, also came out today.  It is digital only… and knowing Carla’s chamber indie-rock magic, it’ll be great (it’s in my e-shopping cart now).  http://kihlstedtbossi.bandcamp.com

My Nels Cline Singers‘ Portland show (1/30) review & photo editing being worked on now… I’ll post it by morning (sorry for the delay).

Secret Chiefs 3 in Italy 2010

13th Dec 10 (Mon) 2 comments

So, a new video has just surfaced… possibly for an upcoming DVD from the Secret Chiefs 3‘s jaunt in Italy earlier this year?  Here is their cover of John Carpenter’s “Halloween” at Grottarossa in Rimini, Italy:

Slow start with the drum intro and the drums being a bit high in the mix, but I like the way it was shot.  Needs some more strings (Timb Harris) and more variation (I’ve never been all that fond of Halloween’s repetition)… anyway, I’m hoping something comes out.  Regardless of the choice of leading off with this song on vimeo, I’m stoked for new SC3 on the horizon.  No clue on the legitimacy of a future release.  Just rumor mill at this stage.

Will it come out before Book of Souls?

Um… yeah, Jesus will come back before Book of Souls… said the atheist.

Faith No More & Sparks (live last night)

2nd Dec 10 (Thu) Leave a comment

A lot of bands put out special one-off collaborations.  Not many actually perform those one-off songs in a live setting.

Well, Faith No More‘s collaboration with Sparks called “This Town Ain’t Big Enough For the Both of Us” is one of my favorite b-sides of theirs.  They did it last night at the Los Angeles Paladium show (Dec 1, 2010)… with Sparks…

Officially, surprisingly MORE jealous of those who went – as this seems legendary.  FYI, the recorded version was released as a UK single and on Sparks’ Plagiarism album.

John Zorn in San Fran 2009

14th Mar 09 (Sat) Leave a comment

First off… Happy Pi Day

Also, tomorrow (Sunday the 15th) marks the end of the run of special John Zorn’s Masada at Yoshi’s in San Francisco.  Here’s a YouTube clip of the Secret Chiefs 3 performance of “Omael” from Xaphan on Tuesday night (pardon the video quality, the taper had to keep it “on the down low” due to the venue’s strict policies against such things):

And “Kemuel“…

Anyone able to sneak an audio recording of any of the Zorn Fest shows (below)?  Hit me up
