Sufjan Steven’s horror/christmas claymation “Mr. Frosty Man”

29th Oct 12 (Mon) Leave a comment

Three Sufjan Stevens posts in a row?  Sorry… I promise I’ll get an October concert recap (Aimee Mann, Nellie McKay, Peter Mulvey/Kris Delmhorst, Dan Deacon) up soon… in the meantime, this new claymation/stop motion music video for Sufjan’s “Mr. Frosty Man” is perfect for both the Christmas & Halloween crowds…

Animation by Lee Hardcastle

Pre-order his upcoming Silver and Gold (Christmas EP boxset #2) on 5 CDs or 58 mp3.  The 5-vinyl set appears to be sold out (via bandcamp).

RECIPE: Easy Pumpkin Cheesecake

5th Nov 11 (Sat) 2 comments

A little belated, but for the Gonzalo Bergara Quartet house concert, there was a potluck element, and I brought…

Pumpkin Cheesecake

Makes 6-8 servings

Ingredients:

  • 2 (8 ounce) cream cheese containers
there are good vegan options, like Tofutti Better than Cream Cheese
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 small pie pumpkin (roasted) or 1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin puree
  • 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice (cinnamon, ginger, all-spice, nutmeg mixture)
  • 1 graham cracker crust – prepared or homemade
  • optional: whipped topping

Steps: prep time ~10 minutes, cook/cool time varies

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Beat cream cheese until soft. Add in sugar, and continue mixing.
  3. Add in pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice.
  4. Pour into prepared crust, and bake for 35-40 minutes until soft but still set in the center.
  5. Let cool for 1 hour, then refrigerate for 3+ hours.

Since the above recipe is fairly remedial ( but still delicious), if you want to “fancy” it up… here’s a great, more complicated recipe with a ginger-pecan crust and sugared pumpkin seeds!  Hat-tip to Panda le Chef for passing on that fancier recipe (I’ll have to try it soon).

This is a mainly music-based blog. If you stumbled in on a recipe search, check out my other recipes at THIS LINK.

PHOTOS: Jason Webley & Mood Area 52 @ WOW Hall (Eugene, OR – 10/31/11)

Fantastically fun Halloween show by Mood Area 52 and Jason Webley at Eugene’s WOW Hall.  Tons of accordion, sing-a-longs, baby carrots, leaves, water bottle shakers, giant balloons (even one Jason got about waist-deep into until it popped), and great music.  Jason last show (for a while) is 11/11/11 at the Moore Theatre in Seattle… go if you are able!

Secret Chiefs 3 in Italy 2010

13th Dec 10 (Mon) 2 comments

So, a new video has just surfaced… possibly for an upcoming DVD from the Secret Chiefs 3‘s jaunt in Italy earlier this year?  Here is their cover of John Carpenter’s “Halloween” at Grottarossa in Rimini, Italy:

Slow start with the drum intro and the drums being a bit high in the mix, but I like the way it was shot.  Needs some more strings (Timb Harris) and more variation (I’ve never been all that fond of Halloween’s repetition)… anyway, I’m hoping something comes out.  Regardless of the choice of leading off with this song on vimeo, I’m stoked for new SC3 on the horizon.  No clue on the legitimacy of a future release.  Just rumor mill at this stage.

Will it come out before Book of Souls?

Um… yeah, Jesus will come back before Book of Souls… said the atheist.
