El Guincho’s “Bombay” video (NSFW)
This came out about 3 weeks ago, but I recently got to see it. El Guincho‘s “Bombay” is entrancing, odd and heavily features nudity (thus the NSFW warning).
Directed by Nicolás Méndez.
Produced by CANADA (lawebdecanada.com)

Ben Folds & Nick Hornby & Pomplamoose
Sure, it came out a month ago, but I was waiting to post about it until I got a chance to listen to Ben Folds & Nick Hornby‘s collaborative album before I posted the video song to the Pomplamoose & Ben Folds (& Nick Hornby) song. Alas, the song isn’t even on the album (unless you buy the deluxe version)… haha. Good thing they didn’t make that an “album only” song on the iTunes version.
Anyway, here’s the great video song for “Things You Think“…
VideoSong, a new medium with 2 rules:
1. What you see is what you hear (no lip-syncing for instruments or voice).
2. If you hear it, at some point you see it (no hidden sounds).
Check out more video songs from Pomplamoose over on their YouTube channel. They’re rad video musicians. I got hooked after their version of Lady Gaga‘s “Telephone”…

Hoquiam video
Here’s the latest, lo-fi video from Hoquiam (Damien and Drake Jurado)… Zombies of the Sea:
The vinyl-or-mp3-only, self-titled debut by Hoquiam is available on St. Ives/Secretly Canadian. That release and Damien’s solo Saint Bartlett rank in my faves this year.

One a month in 2010…

1-Bit Symphony
Tristan Perich‘s 1-Bit Symphony is brilliant. Perfect for the experimental fans, perfect for electrical engineers who also dig music, and perfect for fans of post-modern minimalism. It is an electronic composition in five movements on a single microchip. Though housed in a CD jewel case like his first circuit album (1-Bit Music 2004-05), 1-Bit Symphony is not a recording in the traditional sense; it literally “performs” its music live when turned on. A complete electronic circuit—programmed by the artist and assembled by hand—plays the music through a headphone jack mounted into the case itself.
It comes out today (Aug 24, 2010) and is limited edition… http://bangonacan.org/store/product/181

Goddamn Electric Bill – Jazz (vinyl)
Jason Torbert, aka Goddamn Electric Bill, is putting out his fourth album soon… this time on vinyl, and this time with our help. He’s started a campaign via Kickstarter to gain enough pre-order support to make the vinyl happen.
There are several different packages including vinyl only, vinyl + bsides, vinyl+ bsides + CD, et cetera. He needs to raise $1,500 by Sept 17th. He’s about half way there as of now, but the project won’t happen if he doesn’t raise enough. For those not in the know about GdEB, it’s a fantastic melodic, organic electronic soundscape. Check out some tunes on MySpace or his video for “Ten Thousand Years” here:
I pitched in… I hope you dig the music and do the same. Let’s make GdEB’s Jazz album on vinyl a reality!

Sufjan Stevens – All Delighted People
So, announced and released today, August 20th… Sufjan Stevens‘ All Delighted People EP…
http://sufjanstevens.bandcamp.com/
1. All Delighted People (Original Version) 11:38
2. Enchanting Ghost 03:39
3. Heirloom 02:55
4. From The Mouth Of Gabriel 04:03
5. The Owl And The Tanager 06:38
6. All Delighted People (Classic Rock Version) 08:07
7. Arnika 05:13
8. Djohariah 17:02
A near hour-long “EP”… yippie… also from Asthmatic Kitty:
The EP, All Delighted People, is built around two different versions of Sufjan’s long-form epic ballad “All Delighted People,” a dramatic homage to the Apocalypse, existential ennui, and Paul Simon’s “Sounds of Silence.” Sounds delightful, yes! The song was originally workshopped (oh we hate making workshop a verb, but time is money!) on Sufjan’s previous tour in the fall of 2009. Other songs on the EP include the 17-minute guitar jam-for-single-mothers “Djohariah,” and the gothic piano ballad “The Owl and the Tanager,” a live-show mainstay (and Debbie Downer if you ask us; what’s it doing on a “Delighted” EP?). If you don’t have five dollars, you can stream the EP for free right on Bandcamp. Or if you’re into tactile sensations, we are making All Delighted People available on single-CD and double-LP formats later in 2010 (we’re aiming for December, fingers crossed). 180-gram vinyl.
