Radiohead *out now* and “Lotus Flower” video
So, the new Radiohead album The King of Limbs is out now (not tomorrow). They put it on their download servers early… so, if you bought it, go get it. If you didn’t, go buy it and get it! http://www.thekingoflimbs.com/
They also put out the video for “Lotus Flower”
Produced and Directed by Garth Jennings
Choreographed by Wayne McGregor
Director of Photography- Nick Wood
Editor- Leila Sarraf
The video features Thom Yorke as an “old man dancing”… :) The choreographer is a genius. Not because of his output… but because he was able to earn some income for services rendered to Radiohead. I mean, isn’t that style just called “Thom Yorke stage presence”…?

What is the significance or meaning of the name The King of Limbs? Here’s some thoughts on the album name & artwork, courtesy of The Jammin Jabber blog…
King of Limbs is apparently a thousand year-old tree that inhabits Savernake Forest, which is in close proximity to the house the band recorded In Rainbows in. It is also a term referenced in the Koran (those wacky liberal musicians!)
But the true King of Limbs is older than any future paper or book of fairy tales. He’s been prowling the murky depths for millions of years, biding his time- and now’s his time to shine! That’s right, I’m talking about a little cephalopod who goes by the name of Octopus vulgaris. No one has more limbs than that motherf*cker! And Radiohead knows it, because guess who graces the cover of the new album in all their majestic glory? Not Allah or some goddamn tree, but your garden variety ghost octopus, commonly referred to as a ghoctopus. Long live the king!

Inlets on Daytrotter
Two Daytrotter posts in a row? Well, they continually put out great in-studio sessions for FREE. Don’t worry, I’ll be back to the normal thing… my Reptet live review from last night coming up by Monday (with photos from their Eugene show at Luckey’s).
This Daytrotter session is from Inlets (aka Sebastian Krueger). I first saw Inlets back when I was visiting NYC in March 2007. He had connections to My Brightest Diamond (Shara Worden), and that show really clued me into his wonderfulness. He played on her A Thousand Shark’s Teeth record, and in 2007 his Vestibule EP was available for free (legally). I’m sure you can still find it (or if you ask Sebastian nicely).

The future of music?
Visually like a mix of vinyl and cassette, but it’s actually a not-too-futuristic way for digital playback of music…

Steven Wilson’s TAPE EXPERIMENTS 1985-1986
Porcupine Tree frontman Steven Wilson is always putting out something… this week, he announced he’s making available Tape Experiments 1985-1986 on vinyl via Tone Float.

It was originally intended as a pre-order bonus to his Insurgentes dvd movie release (but withdrawn in favor of a much more recent piece of music), Steven Wilson decided to make his two and four track tape experiments from 1985/1986 available via Soundcloud (free legal download link).
Those tracks are now being released as 180 gram black vinyl album, entitled Tape Experiments 1985/1986. In tie with the flaws of the original grimy cassettes they were taken from, the album is designed with the 70s vinyl bootleg records in mind (and in particular the legendary takrl label), complete with an insert cover. The release date is November 29, 2010, and the album is available exclusively from the Tonefloat store.

Sufjan Stevens – The Age of Adz
Last week they announced the All Delighted People EP. And the week before the fall tour was announced. And today, Asthmatic Kitty announced the upcoming release of The Age of Adz (pronounced Odds), the first song-based full-length from Sufjan Stevens since 2005’s Illinois.
8/27 update: Preview of “I Walked” HERE.

10. I Want To Be Well – 6:27
11. Impossible Soul – 25:35
The Age of Adz will drop on October 12th (CD, MP3) with a double-LP following on November 9th. For the next three weeks you can pre-order the CD or LP, and receive an MP3 download on September 28th, two weeks before the release date.
Per Asthmatic Kitty:
“It’s much too soon to cast descriptive lots, but we can say the new album sounds nothing like the All Delighted EP (although it shares similar themes of love, loss, and the apocalypse). Nor is this new album built around any conceptual underpinning (no odes to states, astrology, or urban expressways). We can say it shows an extensive use of electronics (banjos and acoustic guitars give way to drum machines and analog synthesizers), and an obsession with cosmic fantasies (space, heaven, aliens, love), to create an explicit pop-song extravaganza, augmented by heavy orchestration, and maybe even a few danceable moments. Enjoy Your Rabbit meets the BQE. But with songs. Verse, chorus, bridge, backbeat. Gated reverb. Space echo. Get your boogey on. The ‘Adz’ of the title loosely refers to the apocalyptic paintings of outsider artist Royal Robertson (1930-1997), whose work is used for the album cover, interior design, and as general inspiration for the tone of the album.”
Wow… 2010 is the Year of the Sufjan.

Celldweller *Wish Upon a Blackstar* Chapter 3
The pre-order for Celldweller‘s Wish Upon a Blackstar: Chapter 3 went live yesterday. The third chapter (of five total) will feature the songs “The Lucky One” and “Tainted.”
Chapter 3 will be available for download in several bundles (including a deluxe edition for $4.99) on July 27th from Celldweller’s FiXT store. The deluxe edition features instrumentals, demos, and commentaries.
After all five chapters are released, I expect there will be a full-length album (and hopefully CD) issue.
Ty Tabor’s Trip Magnet & Wally Farkas solo
Two new digital releases showed up yesterday (thanks to Facebook status updates from both gents), both related and both excellent…
Wally Farkas, guitarist of the late great Galactic Cowboys, is putting the final touches on his debut solo album. He’s released the single “Better Than Before” from his forthcoming debut, Past Due (due later this year). This self-penned track shows just one side of what will be a diverse debut album. Also included is the song “Loving Kind,” which was originally recorded by the Peter Green-era of the original Fleetwood Mac and written by one of their brilliant and extremely overlooked guitarists, Danny Kirwan. On these tracks… Wally Farkas – Vocals/Guitar, Ty Tabor (King’s X) – Guitar, Alan Doss (Galactic Cowboys) – Bass, and Darwin Keys (Pushmonkey) – Drums. It’s available on 320 kbps mp3 at Molken Music for only $2.50.
And while you’re there at Molken… Ty Tabor, of King’s X and many side projects, just put out a five-song EP from the upcoming Trip Magnet release. This is a different side of Ty Tabor…somewhere between Xenuphobe (his ambient project with Wally Farkas) and his regular rockin’ studio/solo albums. For a melancholy trip into freakatude, check out Ty’s seventh solo release. An unusual outing for Ty Tabor, this release contains over fourteen minutes of instrumental music, as well as some Ty’s rock vocal numbers. Ty Tabor – Vocals, Guitars, Bass and Randy St. John – Drums. It’s available on 320 kbps mp3 at Molken Music for $7.99.
For just slightly over $10… some great new music!
George Hrab :: Trebuchet
George Hrab‘s 6th album, Trebuchet, is now officially out. It’s available in its entirety on his podcast feed (actually many science & skeptical thinking podcasts’ feeds)…
Geologic Podcast #170 (the whole album)
Buy the physical CD or mp3 from CDBaby. It’s also available on iTunes, but I think CDBaby is a better company, in the long run. Support indie music!
Celldweller *Soundtrack to the Voice in My Head Vol 2* Chapter 1
Celldweller‘s Soundtrack to the Voice in My Head – Volume 2: Chapter 1 went live yesterday. The first chapter (of an undisclosed total) features the songs “The Wings of Icarus,” “Pulsar,” “The Sentinel,” and the 20-minute “Adrift on Celestial Seas.”
Soundtracks Vol 2, Chapter 1 is available for download in several bundles (including a deluxe edition for $5.99) from Celldweller’s FiXT store. The deluxe edition features skads of Beta Cession snippets… After all chapters are released, I expect there will be a full-length album (and hopefully CD) issue.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Porcupine Tree frontman Steven Wilson started his Cover Versions singles (CDR and 7″ vinyl) back in 2005. They are always one new SW song and one “mysterious” cover version (CV1 was Alanis Morissette’s “Thank You”). Coming the next few months will be the 6th and final CV release, complete with a box to house all six. SWHQ/Headphone Dust will have the CDs once available (no conclusive date was mentioned – – but the original SW song “An End to End” is now streaming on his MySpace page). ToneFloat Records will have the CV5 & CV6 vinyl singles once released.
Celldweller *Wish Upon a Blackstar* Chapter 2
The pre-order for Celldweller‘s Wish Upon a Blackstar: Chapter 2 went live yesterday. The second chapter (of five total) will feature the songs “The Best It’s Gonna Get” and “Eon.”
Chapter 2 will be available for download in several bundles (including a deluxe edition for $4.99) on December 8th from Celldweller’s FiXT store. The deluxe edition features a remix from chapter one, “So Long Sentiment” mixed by Toksin’s Anhedonia…
After all five chapters are released, I expect there will be a full-length album (and hopefully CD) issue.
