Porcupine Tree – Bonnie the Cat (video)
Check out the new, Tool-esque video for Porcupine Tree‘s “Bonnie the Cat” from 2009’s The Incident…

It’s weird… the song didn’t even make me think of Tool, but now watching the CGI/Adam Jones–y stop-animation video, the bass line comes through more and the song definitely reminds me of Tool. Hmmm… I’d expect a little more originality from Steven Wilson & Co… well, at least they’re copying a band for which I have a lot of respect.

The song is nothing like Tool’s music, other than it being hard/progressive rock with excellent musicianship and adult themed. You are letting what you are seeing influence what you are hearing. This song is original.
I am a huge Porcupine Tree fan (have been since Lightbulb Sun), and I didn’t make a Tool-ish connection until this video. I don’t think the song is un-original, I just think the video for it is highly derivative of Tool.
