JFJO hates me. Placebo loves me.

I’m either out of town, in town at another show, out of town at another show, or barricaded out of a show whenever Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey comes to town.  Anyway, JFJO is back in Eugene on 9/18, and I’ll be up at Sunny Day Real Estate in Portland.  Oh well, I guess I shouldn’t complain… JFJO comes through twice a year it seems… I’ll try again next time…  Tour dates below…

The Michael Jackson “memorial” service was yesterday (even though he is not dead)… JFJO & Friends did their own takes on some MJ on NYE 2008 and posted them to their website last week.  You can download their live takes of “Billy Jean” and “Thriller” via the links (links from a recent JFJO email).  Vocally, the MJ cover tunes… are… um… are they drunk? Anyway… they’re free.

    Hey!
this is really random, i know… but i googled “placebo portland” and your blog came up.
i’m driving down with 2 friends to see the portland show (and then we’re hitting seattle the next night and coming home to the vancouver show on monday – we’re obsessed)
…anyways, we’ve never been to portland before. any tips or suggestions for what to do/where to eat or where to stay?
what’s this venue like? do you know how many people it holds?

Roseland is a big rock venue in downtown portland. It’s kind of in a sucky part of town (bunch of tramps & homeless); so don’t leave anything valuable in the car. I bet it holds 1,500 to 2,000 or so… I don’t know. It’s your basic rock, standy venue (no seats)… I’ve seen Mogwai and Opeth/Enslaved there. And now I’ve got a few more on the docket for there later this year (Alice in Chains, yay!).

As far as what to eat, there are a lot of great restaurants. My faves close by: Blossoming Lotus (a vegan haven – http://www.blpdx.com/), Skinni Dip (a natural yogurt place on Burnside) and a rad doughnut shop – – Voodoo Donuts (http://www.voodoodoughnut.com/). They have two shops, one close-ish to the venue (and on in SE PDX). Honestly, I rarely eat anywhere other than Blossoming Lotus when I go up to Portland for shows. For a quirky coffee shop, if you have time, I’d recommend Rimsky Corsa Coffee in SE PDX. It’s fun… but not near the venue at all.

When the time gets closer, email me and maybe we could meet before the show… I’ll be there. Tickets go on-sale this coming Friday, IIRC.

FYI… sucky news. I just got an email from TicketWest. Placebo has canceled their Portland date. It may be the whole tour, I don’t know – possibly due to Brian’s recent fainting at a show. All I know is that TicketsWest is refunding me my ticket price.

    awesome! thanks so much.
i forgot to say that one of my friends is a vegetarian, so blossoming lotus sounds perfect.
the coffee shop sounds cool too… maybe a good place for breakfast the next day? or late night eats after the show?

    • 14th Jul 09 (Tue) at 9:43 am

Yeah, I do know that Voodoo Donuts is open 24 hours. It’s a fun place.

As far as the coffee shop, they’re really quirky. I don’t know about late eats… they may close at a “normal” time.

    Very nice site!

JFJO is in PDX the next night as part of MusicfestnNW – maybe you should stay up in PDX for the night….

      Thanks, Eric!

Damn! That week is kicking my ass… as I’m driving back and forth between Eugene and Portland all week. :)

I’ll defintiely put JFJO @ MFNW down as a tentative. It’d be the 4th show in 4 days (and 7th in 10 days) if I swung it…

      hmm…
