Guitar Praise

Before I start, I am an atheist, but I’m not anti-Christian or anti-religious people.  I just believe in one less god than they do.  We should all coexist.  With that being said…

Why is this game needed?  Oh, so, as a Christian, you shouldn’t set yourself up to be a hero?  You also shouldn’t play an “evil rock” song on a fake guitar?  You should play sanctified “rock for the rock” on a fake guitar?

:sigh:

The troubling thing… looking at the setlist for the game, they don’t even have the “good” Christian rock on there (outside of potentially the Crucified and dc Talk tracks).  They need some Tourniquet, Believer, Deliverance, Klank, Stavesacre, or, hell… even Stryper or P.O.D..  And the Jars of Clay song is… well, not even one of their dozen popular ones.

That reminds me of that one episode of King of the Hill. Bobby joins up with a Christian youth group whose members are all tattooed and skaters and such. Anyway, Bobby sneaks off to a Christian rock concert. Hank, Bobby’s dad, finds out and goes to the rock concert to get him. One thing leads to another which leads Hank to say, “Can’t you see you’re not making Christianity better, you’re just making rock n’ roll worse.” I always loved that line. :)

    hahahaha… :D

I remember an episode where Luanne joins a Jesus people movement, and they come over and start talking Bible to Hank… and he gets mad at them invading his privacy and outbursts, “Get out of My House. – Exodus” :)

These people are obviously not fundamentalists ala the old skool GARBC (3rd degree fundies wouldn’t play rock music at all), but they are coming from a fundamentalist style of thinking – you must separate from evil (where evil = not us) – which is fueling this nonsense about The Culture War ™. However, Christians (religions in general) are loathe to pass up an opportunity to make money. So, out of the confluence of separation and greed you see things like this (and Michael W Smith) appear.

My question is this – where’s the One Bad Pig song in the setlist?

Also – I’m surprised to see you come out of the closet as atheist. I always thought agnostic was your preferred label.

agnostic is my adjective, atheist is my noun.

I was agnostic-christian near my end days at Cedarville College (ack… “University”).

Left the flock, came back, then left, then went to a liberal home-church thing, then left completely as a non-anything, then about 2 years ago shifted to the agnost-atheist.

They need some Tourniquet, Mortification, Deliverance, One Bad Pig… :)

Fry like bacon, you’re a pagan.

I don’t believe in the pagan gods either.

Maybe you can play the choruses over and over with your eyes shut and have an exstatic experience while your friends walk to the front to “make a committment”.

I’m with you all the way on this one, Dan.
