This just in from Ipecac…

We wanted to let you know, that Mike Patton just wrapped up his score for the much buzzed about film, The Place Beyond the Pines. This is the new film by acclaimed director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine), who chose Patton to provide the music.

The film stars Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes and Rose Byrne. It got rave reviews at the recent Toronto International Film Festival and is slated for a 2013 release.

The Place Beyond the Pines is the multi-generational story of a motorcycle stunt rider (Gosling), who considers committing a crime in order to provide for his newborn child, an act that puts him on a collision course with a cop-turned-politician (Cooper).

Jonny Greenwood – Norwegian Wood (2011)

Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood put out his most recent film score today on CD… Norwegian Wood.  The mp3 version (out earlier this year) is on sale at the Amazon ($7.99):

The Nonesuch Records PR on Mr Greenwood…

Jonny Greenwood, while perhaps best known for his role as guitarist/multi-instrumentalist in the rock band Radiohead, was trained as violist, Greenwood had begun studies in music at Oxford University before leaving to concentrate full-time on touring and recording with Radiohead. Nonetheless, Greenwood has maintained a passion for classical music that began at least since his teens, particularly the work of French composer Olivier Messiaen. Since the early 2000s, and particularly in 2004 when he received his BBC appointment, Greenwood has slowly been building a body of work in the classical tradition, for groups ranging from string quartet to full orchestra.

Kevin Moore’s Shine (order)

If you missed the Kickstarter for Kevin Moore‘s Shine (the score/soundtrack to the Turkish film Küçük Kıyamet), you can now order it via a standard method…

Click the above images to go to the website for samples and ordering info.  It’s limited to 1,000 CDs.  I imagine it will surface as digital only at some point.

I’ve had Shine since late, late December… I dig it.  Definitely fitting more in with movie scores, like Ghost Book (his score for Turkish horror movie Okul), compared to his work with Chroma Key or O.S.I.

As reported about 2 months agoKevin Moore (Chroma Key, O.S.I., ex-Dream Theater) is putting out SHINE – the score to the Turkish film Kucuk Kiyamet (2007).  The Kickstarter micro-funding goal was easily met, and production is underway.  Here is a 6-panel digipack classic Penguin Books-style mock up of the artwork done by Alessandro Falca of Conte di San Pietro:

Alessandro is also currently working on the poster and T-shirt design. The digipack is now finalized and will go to the manufacturer next week. Kevin is hoping to ship preorders late November or early December (2010).

Mike Patton and Will Smith

re-posted from the Ipecac blog…

Hooray for Hollywood!

Take note if you are a movie fan. There is a little film coming out in December called I Am Legend that features our very own Mike Patton. It also stars some actor named Will Smith. The tricky part is, you won’t see Mike, but you’ll hear him. He is the voice of the creatures in the movie. That is right, the evil screams and howls coming from the “creatures” will be courtesy of Mike. Seems he is getting a lot of requests to do evil/monster/zombie noises and sounds. Remember he is the Darkness in the game of the same name and even shows up in the game Portal as well!!!
