I bought the definitive work on learning Icelandic as a second language and I could never get to the cute stories in Chapter 4 about Jorg and Juli because I couldn’t get the hang of the phonemes.

I must have absorbed some of it because my guesses were close, but the thing that fucks me up is the consonants that change their pronounciation (like k or g) depending on where they occur in the word and what letters are around them.

Maybe my problem is that I’m not listening to any Icelandic music.

Well, the Icelandic music that I have (Sigur Rós, Björk, Múm, For a Minor Reflection, Mugison) is either in English or without lyrics… sigh… so, that wouldn’t help you any.

PS- I couldn’t tell if you really got a definitive work on Icelandic, or if you were just janking my jónsi.
