Worst Music News in 2011 (for me at least)
- Faith No More‘s reunion tour didn’t hit the U.S. proper, again… and the promised Mondo Cane U.S. Tour didn’t happen.
- Dream Theater not wanting to take a short break/hiatus, and thus kicking out Mike Portnoy, one of the best parts of that band…

honestly, as much as i loved portnoy for his connection with the fans, i’m glad he’s gone. not sure i’ll ever be a DT fan again (last good album for me was octavarium), I think it’s good that the band gets away from the standard metal bullshit that portnoy was so keen on having every album. not to mention, they had already been on hiatus…portnoy seemed to be a little selfish considering DT was their main income and he wanted everyone to wait on HIM while he played with A7X (ew). the new drummer is awesome anyway…hope portnoy can find his niche outside of DT
also, I have ‘Lifting Shadows’, the DT biography first edition signed only by portnoy. i would assume this will be worth some money someday :)
Yeah, the metal didn’t usually work for them, mainly due to LaBrie’s singing, IMO. ;) Portnoy’s departure isn’t a bad thing on the lyric front… his lyrics were a bit sing-songy/overly rhyme-y.
DT is officially on the backburner for me, too… I may see them if they come through town, but I’m not as gungho as I used to be…
